Henry Herbert ("Herb") Sennett was born in Atlanta and raised in Chesapeake (South Norfolk), Virginia. He received his bachelor's degree from Arkansas State University after which he served in combat in the Vietnam war in the US Army as an infantry lieutenant. After he returned home, he served with the army reserves while completing the M.A. in Speech at the University of Memphis.
Herb is a consummate teacher and educator having spent nearly forty years in the classroom. Herb began his teaching career as a high school speech and drama teacher in Arkansas leaving to attend seminary in 1976. He taught for ten years at Palm Beach Atlantic University then spent five years at Louisiana College as professor and chair of the Speech Department. He retired in 2016 from Palm Beach State College.
Not to be hemmed into one profession, in 1983 he rejoined the Army Reserves as a chaplain. He served from 1985 to 1996 as a member of the chaplain staff of the 3220th US Army Garrison (formerly located on Gun Club Road).
He was part of the army reserve contingent called to active duty in 1990 by president George H. W. Bush and served for nearly a year on active duty supporting the families at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.
He subsequently served with the 377th Theater Support Command in New Orleans and the 324th Combat Support Hospital in Perrine, Florida. He retired in 2004.
Dr. Sennett's experience and maturity make him a perfect candidate to sit in the Florida House of Representatives since he does not plan a career in politics. His desire is to serve the maximum of eight years in the state house then return to do volunteer work in the area. He only wants to be a servant of the people of Central Palm Beach County with no designs for higher office.
Having taught students of all income levels, all races, and all nationalities (both foreign and domestic), he understands the plight and needs of the vast majority of people in Palm Beach County. And he looks forward to helping build a stronger and safer community.
Herb and Beverly have been married for more than 50 years. Beverly is originally from Black Oak, Arkansas, and is a graduate of Arkansas State University. For the past 35 years, she has worked as an accountant and legal assistant. They have two adult children and one grandson.
